Winch & Co announced that it has completed the £5 million acquisition of Dedicated Transport Solutions (DTS), a warehousing and distribution business based in Cramlington, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Private equity firm Winch & Co, which set its sights set on acquiring 3 logistics business to its increasing portfolio, has completed the acquisition of a North East freight operator and its 250,000 sq. ft. industrial estate and distribution centre.
Winch & Co was founded by South Yorkshire entrepreneur Nathan Winch, who sold his first business in 2017. The business, which is based in the centre of Leeds and now has over 50 full-time employees, invests in UK companies operating in FMCG, industrial and service-based industries, as well as deploying private dynamic growth capital.
Nathan Winch, Chief Executive at Winch & Co, said, “This latest acquisition takes us another step closer to our goals as part of our wider plan.
“If there’s anything the COVID-19 pandemic taught us, it’s the importance of logistics and warehousing as part of a larger functional infrastructure throughout the UK. Without operators such as DTS, the nation would have ground to a complete halt.
He added, “DTS has plenty of potential, and for us it’s an exciting prospect. When we acquire a business, we do so to increase its profitability via investment and different ways of working.
“The previous owners built a solid business, and it’s our job to drive it forward and take it to the next level.”
Debra Hart, Commercial Direct at Winch & Co, commented, “DTS operate a solid business, with multiple blue chip clients including some household names. It presents a good foundation for growth as a platform investment.”
Winch & Co was advised by Ison Harrison Solicitors in Leeds. DTS was advised by Lupton Fawcett.
